Is your avid comic/graphic novel reader ready to take the next step and start creating their own comics?
Have them join us on Sunday, August 21 at 4pm for our inaugural comic workshop, Draw Comics with Ruthie, led by our own bookseller/illustrator extraordinaire Ruthie Lafond.
This one-hour workshop for ages 8 to 12 will cover idea generation, character design, panel composition, and more. By the end of the workshop, students will have started (and maybe even finished!) a multi-panel comic of their own. This workshop will be held outdoors, in front of the store.
The registration fee is $20 and includes a sketchbook and set of colored pens your budding artist can use for their ideas. Inspiration can strike at any time... don’t be caught unprepared!
Ruthie Lafond is an illustrator with a degree in Creative Writing from Bard College. She's a member of SCBWI and co-founded the children’s illustration blog Pen & Oink, where she has interviewed numerous notable illustrators since 2012. She also runs the Illustrator Spotlight at Linden Tree, a rotating monthly display celebrating children’s book illustrators. You can find her comic strip Nutty Conversations in SundayHaha every Sunday.
