Sorry! This workshop has sold out!
Is your avid comic/graphic novel reader ready to take the next step and start creating their own comics?
Have them join us on Sunday, November 5 at 3pm for our workshop, Playing with Comics, led by illustrators Jen de Oliveira and Ruthie Lafond.
In this fun hands-on workshop, Jen and Ruthie will explore a variety of activities for making comics. We will start off with warm up games to get the comic juices flowing. Next up, we'll play with a bunch of styles and exercises for making comics. The young artists will finish off by making and sharing their own comics with the group. This workshop is designed for artists ages 8-12.
The registration fee is $40 and includes a Sunday Haha zine (full of funny 4-panel comics), and a signed copy of Jen de Oliveira’s graphic novel, Reggie: Kid Penguin.
Jen de Oliveira is a writer, cartoonist, and elementary school teacher from the Bay Area, California. She is the creator of the all-ages webcomic Reggie and the co-creator of Sunday Haha, a free weekly comics newsletter for kids. Her graphic novel debut, Reggie: Kid Penguin, is out now and the sequel, Reggie: Penguin in Charge, will be out in June 2024.
Ruthie Lafond is an illustrator and member of SCBWI and co-founded the children’s illustration blog Pen & Oink, where she has interviewed numerous notable illustrators since 2012.
