As bloody battle rages between the two surviving dinosaur kingdoms, Eleri and the other young exiles—including a peppy stegosaur, a stoic sauropod, a testy triceratops, and a mysterious spy—search for proof to convince their herds that the war is a setup orchestrated by the secret Carrion Kingdom, a conniving cabal of carnivores determined to feast on every living herbivore. But without evidence, not a soul believes them.

Chased out by their own families and pursued by raptors, the exiles flee into the treacherous Deadlands only to find themselves trapped inside the Fire Peak: the volcanic heart of the Carrion Kingdom. When they discover a cavern of imprisoned herbivores, the outcasts must stage an elaborate heist, bring down a tyrannosaur general, and gather the proof they need in one fell swoop.

About the Author

Skye Melki-Wegner started writing as soon as she could hold a pen. She was immediately drawn to fantasy—and soon her notebooks overflowed with dragons, pixies, and wizards. After graduating with an honors degree in law, she traded in practicing law for writing fantasy novels. Her first middle-grade trilogy, The Deadlands, draws inspiration from her time working in a museum (where some of her colleagues were dinosaurs) and will be published in 2023.
